Lagos politician, Senator
Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro is set to bounce back into prominence. He has been
tipped for a ministerial position by President Goodluck Jonathan. Popularly
called Koro Ibo by his admirers, Obanikoro is reported to have made the
ministerial list, which President Jonathan will send to the Senate this week
for confirmation hearing. The list is made of 10 ministerial nominees drawn from
nine states of the federation. The president, at a meeting in Abuja with
chieftains of the People Deemocratic Party, PDP from the North-West geopolitial
zone, had told them that he was ready with the ministerial list, which he
would send to the National Assembly for approval after resumption from its recess.
The National Aseembly resumes tomorrow. Sources close to the Presidency
disclosed that the choice of Obanikoro was made because he is regarded as the
most formidable politician within the Lagos PDP. He is believed to possess
enough political clout, needed to wrestle Lagos State from the grip of the
opposition party. Koro, who will be 60 this year contested in the 2007
gubernatorial election against Governor Raji Fashola. But he dumped his
gubernatorial ambition and promised not to contest against Fashola because of the genuine admiration he has for him. And with the completion of Fashola’s
two term tenure in 2015, Koro has decided to drive the opposition party in
Lagos State into a state of extinction.
A consummate politician and diplomat, Obanikoro is known to be a great family man. He is married to Moroophat Omolara and they are blessed with children and grandchildren, who he thinks the world of.
