THE STORY OF SLS: HOW SEX AND NEPOTISM TRAILED HIS TENURE AT THE APEX BANK

Before SLS became the CEO of the apex bank, he never hid the fact that he had a weakness for women. Interestingly, while SLS was at FB, his tenure was fraught by cases of intimate relationship with the female staff. It is gathered that he never spared any woman that he liked. Once any female staff caught his fancy, he would ensure that he dated her. And should the lady refused his advances, she would be given punitive postings that would ultimately lead to her exit from the bank. This was even as he occupied the position of the head of the bank.This habit later became what laid the foundation for SLS' career in the country’s apex bank. 

Even after he became the chief of the country's apex bank, SLS did not drop his old habit of blackmailing women into dating him, whether or not they were married. According to sources, not a  few of the top female contractors who got choice jobs from the apex bank ended up as his mistresses. It was gathered that once any female staff dated SLS, her career would be on the highway of advancement. Most staff of the apex bank knew of SLS's style of operation. But they lived in total trepidation of being sacked, since their lines were reportedly bugged.

Sources disclosed that SLS never hid his preference for children of the elite as staff of the apex bank. It was as if the children of the poor and the middle class were never meant to work there. Several reports of nepotism were either swept under the carpet or simply disregarded. It was gathered that whenever SLS did some of his random reshuffling, he would deploy some of the directors who were not from his ethnic group to less-juicy departments. And he is said not to broach any complaint from anyone. Many children of his powerful friends, were usually given posts and appointments in the bank without such jobs going through the normal process of advertisement. Quota system was thrown to the winds, and so also was merit, as many of those who were appointed to work in the bank got their jobs based on who they knew, rather than whether or not they were qualified. When you look at this vis a vis the implications for the teaming staff who have to now work with these unqualified recruits, and the overall implication of using unqualified men to man sensitive posts in the apex bank, the effects of this would be

Presently, SLS, who has assumed the poise of an anti-corruption crusader, has been battling to save his career. Apart from the over-flogged stories of how he influenced the take-over of banks of people who did not support the move to make him the Governor of the apex bank, there are stories of his involvement in a farming project in Kaduna-Kano axis. SLS was alleged to have bought a farm for N3billion. He has started another farm and is presently building a N3billion tomato puree factory.
