The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress, the All Progressives Congress Youth Movement (APCYM), has declared its support for the candidacy of Hon. Mohammed Oyinlomo Danmole, as the next APC party chairman in Lagos State. This was one of the core resolutions reached at both executive and congress meetings of the organisation held recently. Most of the issues that were raised at the meetings, bordered on critical issues of importance in Lagos State and Nigeria in general. One of such critical issues, among others, addressed APCYM's concern on leadership of the party in Lagos State.
The APCYM, which is a strong party platform, comprises of card carrying youth, who believe in, and is committed to promoting the ideology, vision, objectives and political interests of the party. After considering variable factors around the issue, APCYM has decided to throw its weight behind the choice candidacy of Danmole, who is the current Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs.
According to the organisation, APC, being a bedrock of change revolution in Nigeria, requires firm, disciplined and progressive minded leaders to anchor its leadership base in Lagos State which is generally accepted as a model for other states.
The APC youth wing posits that, at such a critical time like this, the party requires a strong party platform that is strong enough to accommodate and absorb group formations and interests within the party. The group believes that, APC should be the mother and canopy for all groups, regional, sectional and personal interests which are of course essential parts of the party structures, and Hon. Oyinlomo Danmole is believed to be guided by this ideal and principle, which naturally qualifies him for the position and the reason the group is endorsing him. According to the group, "Hon Oyinlomo Danmole is quite experienced, dynamic, vocal and progressive with landmark achievements in previous and current political offices he has held or holding at the moment. The records are clear".
The youth wing affirms that APC in Lagos State is on fierce target by the present PDP leadership from the Presidency against 2015 bid, hence the need to reposition the party strategically to check the imminent external aggression and build strong resistance to check the artificially motivated political ‘Tsunami’ being organised by the PDP against Lagos State, while at the same time launching new ideas and initiatives that can continue to give the party an edge above all others, particularly the ruling party. This task is so herculean that the injection of Hon Oyinlomo Danmole’s dynamism is so timely without fear or favour.
In view of the above, the youth platform in the party, asserts that its opinion is a reflection of the wish and yearnings of the teeming youth organisation and groups under its political leadership. In the words of APCYM, "APC, being the party that promotes and encourages inclusion of the young people in governance, we believe, will look deeply into our opinion and give it a second thought while decision is being made at a higher platform to choose the next party Chairman in the State. As young people, we have resolved to continue to speak towards ensuring that our voice is heard on critical matters bordering on development of the state and our country at large".
