GOVERNOR AHMED CHARGES LEADERS ON HUMILITY

Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has advised the political class, especially those in leadership positions, to always exercise their authority with humility and piety in recognition that power flows from God.
Governor Ahmed said this in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of the State at the 8th Lai Muhammed Ramadan Lecture, adding that those in positions of authority must always remember that attainment of such positions was the will of God.
According to him: “Those of us in positions of authority should recognise the fact that we did not get there by our strength but by the will of Allah. We must therefore recognise that power flows from Allah and it must be used with piety and humility.
Governor Ahmed said governments should embrace the concept of wealth distribution as a pragmatic way of tackling poverty and promoting harmony in the society.
“Charity is very important and Zakat, a wealth distribution mechanism, which if embraced, will ensure that there is no poverty in the land is equally important. If mankind imbibes the spirit of Zakat there will be no poverty in the land. So we must see how governments across the world imbibe it; it is not about Islam, it is about a system of wealth distribution that ensures people can get the benefits of life”, he said.
Ahmed also called for understanding and cooperation of the populace,so that governments can deliver policies and programmes that will ensure the emergence of a polity where quality of life is enhanced.
The Convener of the Ramadan Lecture and National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his address said Nigerians must imbibe the spirit of brotherliness, even beyond the month of Ramadan.
