NYAKO’S SON, ABDUALAZEEZ ON THE RUN AS EFCC CLOSES IN ON HIM

There are indications that the first son of the impeached Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, Navy Commander Abdulaziz Nyako, has fled the country following the probe of his father’s administration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
In the last few years, former Governor Nyako has been grooming Abdulaziz to take over from him in 2015 and the young man had to cut short a promising military career to understudy his father in the art of governance.
It was gathered that following the impeachment of his father, Abdulaziz went underground when EFCC officials stormed the state to investigate corruption allegations against the former governor.Speculations are rife in Yola that Nyako’s son escaped to the United States through porous borders between Nigeria and Cameroon.

While Nyako held sway in Adamawa State, his first son was unofficially in charge of a number of real and fictitious projects in the state, which are now being investigated by the EFCC.

The administration of Nyako had several individuals who hold no official positions in government but involved in the running of the administration.

Former Governor Nyako also used several illegal institutions that are not enacted into law to perform official functions, exercising state powers and expending public funds.

One of the illegal institutions is the Special Programmes and Projects Unit, SPPU, which is believed to have been administered by the first son of the governor from the comfort of his private residence.

There are reports that in spite of the fact that the SPPU was not recognised by any law enacted by the state House of Assembly, all major public contracts and expenditure running into billions passed through it as clearing house for Adamawa State government.

The shady activities of the SPPU were one of the impeachable offences listed by Adamawa State lawmakers that eventually sent Nyako packing.

It was also gathered yesterday that EFCC officials are still combing several locations in Yola with the hope of apprehending the fleeing son of the former governor.

All the leads the EFCC officials received about the whereabouts of Abdulaziz had been fruitless, as the retired naval officer is said to have relocated to unspecified location in the United States.

Sources disclosed that the operatives of the commission in plain clothes are monitoring the movements of impeached governor of Adamawa state Murtala Nyako and his son Abdulaziz Nyako over their alleged role in the N6 billion loot that Nyako accessed as a bond while in office.
According to the source, a letter of invitation will soon be despatched to the former governor, his son and seven officials of his cabinet. He said that the letters would be sent to Nyako’s Abuja and Yola residents.
