The first week of July 2014 marked the 10th year remembrance of one of the Nigerian society's most celebrated female personalities, Fadeke Folawiyo. Her family and close friends hosted a prayer session in her honour. Fadeke, as she was fondly called, by her
loved ones, died on July 5, 2004, in the United States, after a protracted battle with Leukemia. She was aged 31 years. The ELITES pays tribute to this beautiful lady.
In July 6, 2004, death
claimed Fadeke Folayiwo. It was a painful end to the life of one of the most
beautiful personalities within the Lagos social establishment. Fadeke wife
of
Olarenwaju Abdul Mojeed and daughter of the late TOS Benson, lived a wonderful
albeit short life. The beautiful lady would be remembered as one who radiated
fun,
laughter, and beauty wherever she found herself. Indeed, the true measure of a person is not how long he or she lives, but what was achieved while on earth. Fadeke was endowed with the most noble qualities of kindness, selflessness, thoughtfulness, genuine beauty and a remarkable ability to put a smile on people’s faces.

Born Oluwafadekemi Barbara
Omobolanle Benson to Otunba and Chief (Mrs.) Esther Benson in November 1972,
Fadeke spent her early life in Lagos, attending Corona School, Gbagada and
Queen’s College, Yaba. Later, she moved to Milfield School Somerset, England;
before she enrolled at the University of Buckingham, where she read Law. Fadeke
spent some time in the legal practice by starting out in her father’s firm TOS
Benson &
Co Solicitors, Poroye Chambers. Her preference seemed to be Corporate Law as she eventually worked in the Corporate Affairs Department of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited.

Fadeke’s world revolved
around her family and friends, and she loved without any inhibition. Fadeke and
Lanre got married in April 2000, at a very colourful and classy wedding, which
shook the Lagos society to its foundation. In February, 2003, they were blessed
with a lovely son, Amil. The love that was shared by the two was very profound,
such that when Fadeke fell ill, Lanre abandoned his business to stay by her
side on her sick bed in the United States. He was with her as the sickness
worsened and till she breathed her last.
She was well loved within the Benson and
Folawiyo families. Her mother was one of the most significant people in her
life, and she was a strong source of inspiration for her sisters- Taiwo and
Kehinde, and her brothers- Gboyega and Yomi. She was also adored by her older
siblings- Bimbo Cardoso, Jeniffer Benson, and other members of both families of
TOS Benson and Bobby Benson- like Kehinde Ebie, Taiwo, Jumoke Bodunrin, Yinka
and many others.
Fadeke’s life was full of
adventure. She enjoyed travelling, experiencing new cultures and destinations. She
also had a passion for food, enjoying
both cooking and trying out new restaurants. One of her passion was organizing events. Major events that involved the Folawiyos or the Bensons were hardly complete without her attention and contributions. Fadeke had learnt the art of hosting people from her mother, who was used to entertaining Otunba Benson’s high profile friends at their Ikorodu country home. She was a stickler for excellence, had a great dress sense, and was always exploring new ventures in business ventures.

Aside her love for her
family, Fadeke also invested a lot into building a formidable circuit of
friendship. Notable among some of her close friends are Sumbo Odunsi, Ayo
Amusan, Aisha Babangida, Titi Ogunbanjo,
Fadeke was beautiful. Beauty
glowed from within her and radiated around her. Indeed, she was a rare gem
