- The Wife Snatching Scandal That Caused The Rift
The aphorism that, one does not speak ill of the dead, does not seem to
hold any meaning for Segun Alawaye, the popular socialite, who ruled the party
scene in the late 80’s through the 90’s. To Alawaye, who is a very close friend
of billionaire, Femi Otedola, the death of an enemy signaled a call for
celebration. This was how he greeted the news of the death of Alhaji
Abdul-Azeez Arisekola Alao, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, who died in London
on Wednesday, June 18. The ELITES gathered that upon hearing the news of Aare
Arisekola-Alao’s passage, Alawaye who was hanging out with some friends at
their regular rendezvous, requested for a bottle of Champagne, claiming it was
for his enemy. Although, a couple of his friends joined him in popping the
bottle, two of his other friends were reported to have declined to be tagged
along in the ‘abnormal celebration’
Sources disclosed that
Alawaye had always nursed an age-long animosity towards the late Muslim cleric.
His hatred is borne of the pain of losing his wife, Faramade to Alao-Arisekola
many years ago. According to sources, Alawaye and Faramade were married for
many years and they were described as a very happy couple. However, their
marriage went through a most trying period when Alawaye’s financial status suffered
a decline. Faramade, who had become accustomed to leading a luxurious lifestyle
found it difficult to adapt to a life of austere. Invariably, she decided to
dump Alawaye and pitch her tent with a flamboyantly wealthy Alao-Arisekola.
This turn of event dealt a deadly blow on Alawaye and he swore never to forgive
the two people who inflicted such pain on him.
Since the news of Alawaye’s
champagne-popping scenario broke out, his friends have been chiding him for
displaying such an abnormal behavior. Some of his friends were said to have
suggested he sees a shrink and shred himself of his hatred of those who hurt
him.
