Some unidentified persons on Sunday defaced the walls of the private home of a former governor of the Ogun State, Segun Osoba, with derogatory graffiti.
A visit to Mr. Osoba’s house at the Government Reservation Area, Ibara, Abeokuta, showed the wall was defaced with uncomplimentary remarks directed at the former governor.
Some of the remarks read: “Osoba, o ti jetan” meaning “Osoba, you are finished; “Osoba, ti e ba e
The guard at the house, Tunde Fasasi, said the person(s) that committed the act must have done it at about 4 a.m. as he was still patrolling the premises at 3 a.m.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Osoba told journalists that he had developed a thick skin to such pranks by faceless people.
“Well, I am used to being insulted even when I was governor in 2002. I’m not disappointed; that is exactly what happened 11 years ago. For me, I have developed a thick skin. Anything anybody says about me – at the age of 75, it is too late to malign my name or to destroy my reputation as an elder.
“All I can say is that may God continue to forgive them. We should pray for them, may God forgive them,” Mr. Osoba said.
The Ogun State government has dissociated itself from the act.
The Special Assistant to Governor Ibikunle Amosun on media, Sola Balogun, dismissed the action as a deliberate attempt by enemies of the state to destroy the governor’s name.
“Senator Ibikunle Amosun cannot and did not send anybody to deface Osoba’s house. This is a tolerant governor,” Mr. Balogun said.
Messrs. Osoba and Amosun lead two different factions of the All Progressives Congress, with the governor’s faction recognised by the party headquarters.
