The Yewa Traditional Council has warned politicians in the state not to drag Yewa monarchs into politics by feeding the public with lies.
The council has also denied a media report that the monarchs endorsed one of the governorship aspirants in the state.
In a statement issued in Ilaro on Saturday by its Secretary, Niyi Faremi, the council said “at no time did Yewa Traditional Council endorse any aspirant for any particular post at her council meeting held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Ilaro – Yewa, presided over by the President of the Council, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland”.
The council warned aspirants for political offices in Yewaland and Ogun State not to drag the Yewa Obas into politics by telling lies to the public.
“Our royal fathers are non-partisan and are fathers of all. As such, they have always provided level playing ground for all aspirants to express their interests, through their political parties, to serve our people.
“The council uses this medium to appeal to all aspirants in Ogun West Senatorial District to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and shun all acts of thuggery and violence as we approach the election year.
“Our people will not hesitate to disassociate themselves from any aspirant or candidate indulging in violence”, Faremi warned.
There was a media report on Friday that the governorship ambition of Abiodun Akinlade had received a major boost on Thursday, as 35 traditional rulers from Ogun West, led by Olugbenle, endorsed him after their monthly meeting at Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government.
Akinlade is a governorship aspirant from Ogun West on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
