The late Dotun Oni |
-Nigerian Society Mourns The Popular Grandson of Pa. Emmanuel Alayande
Last Sunday, 28 September, 2014, the Nigerian social
circuit was thrown into a mourning mood. This was occasioned by the tragic
death of Dotun Oni, one of Nigeria’s most prominent Big Boys, who died in
Lagos. He died, after suffering an asthma attack. The ELITES gathered that
Dotun had just arrived from London on a Virgin Atlantic flight on that fateful
Sunday morning, when he was suddenly seized by the attack. He died before he
could be rushed to the hospital. He was aged 51.
Until his death, Dotun was
the General Manager (Administration) of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency
(NAMA). Described as a jolly good fellow and humble man, Dotun was from the
illustrious Oni family of Ibadan, Oyo State. His grandfather was the late Chief
Theophilus Adediran Oni, the great philanthropist and businessman, popularly
known as T.A Oni and Sons. Dotun’s mother, Bukola Oni is the daughter of the late
Archdeacon Pa. Emmanuel Alayande, the highly venerated educationist and
politician.
Notable among some of his
cousins are Toyin Adedoyin, the wife of Prince Samuel Adedoyin, Tokunbo
Awogboro of Nail Studio, Ronke Kuye and many others.
Since the news of his death broke out last
week, members of his family and friends have become very downcast. Worst hit
are his wife, Tolu and children, Ore and Femi. So also are his parents, and sisters- Fadeke and Detola.
The ELITES gathered that the burial
ceremony of Dotun Oni has been scheduled to take place Ibadan next week. The
Wake Keep will take place on Thursday, October 9, at Ibadan Civic Center, ICC,
