Gbeminiyi and Kehinde Smith |
Recently, one of Nigeria's most humble billionaires, Sir Kehinde Smith and his wife, Gbeminiyi (née Aboderin) had a good reason to celebrate. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary a few days ago. But rather than mark the event in an elaborate manner as they are wont to do, the Smiths opted for a quite celebration. The ELITES gathered that they were away in London, where they treated themselves to a brief honeymoon. Kehinde and Gbeminiyi Smith are known to have a tradition of marking their birthday and wedding anniversaries every year with an open house party at their expansive Ikeja GRA residence.
But they decided to make this year’s celebration an exception. This is not unconnected to their joint decision to spend some quality time with each other.
Smith, a very successful engineer and business man is one of the most respected patriarchs within the Lagos society. His wife, Gbeminiyi is the daughter of the late Chief Moyosore Aboderin and a progenitor of the great Alatede Aboderin family linage of Ibadan, which boasts of such other notable personalities like Chiefs Ajibola Ogunsola, Onikepo Akande, Lola-Ibi Aboderin, Foluke Aboderin and many others.
Gbeminiyi Smith is a co-founder of Atlantic Hall, one of the most elitist and highbrow secondary schools in Nigeria. She is the proprietress of Childville School, also an elitist school in Lagos. The very unassuming society matriarch, who is in her early 60's, is also a member of Board of Directors of The Punch
The marriage between Kehinde and Gbeminiyi Smith is blessed with two children- Ayomide and Ajijola and four grandchildren.
