The Chairman, Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, Prince Buruji Kashamu is the main issue within the PDP South-West caucus. Some analysts believe that Kashamu’s emergence and pride of place in the PDP is a measure of how much the politics of "stomach infrastructure" persists in the party and how much it is prepared to win at all cost.
Ever since Kashamu came into political limelight during former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel's first time tenure in office, he has become a key political figure. He is known to be very close to President Goodluck Jonathan, because of his ability to mobilise votes in key states in the south west.
However, beyond his high political stature, Kashamu is really living up to his reputation as a party-loving and generous moneybag. Kashamu is the biggest thing happening within the social circuit at the moment. Those who have run into this PDP bogeyman at any party, held in recent times, will attest to this fact. The Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State born billionaire also basks in the euphoria that his personality attracts at society parties.
Kashamu, who is in the eye of the storm over allegation of drug-related indictment in the United States, is always heavily guarded by a battery of policemen. He is also accompanied by his wife Sandra, a tall and fair complexioned damsel. But the way and manner which Kashamu sprays musicians and guests is the clincher here. He doles out bundles of N500 notes and $100 bills. If the musician on the bandstands performs to Kashamu's satisfaction, he can become a beneficiary of a brand new car. Of course, his exit at parties is always characterized by a stampede caused by area boys.
