LAGOS 2015: PDP MEMBERS SUE OBANIKORO FOR FORGERY, DUAL CITIZENSHIP

Senator Obanikoro

Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State have asked an Ikeja High Court to stop the 2015 governorship ambition of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Mohammed Obanikoro, over an alleged falsification of age.

Besides, they asked the court to determine Obanikoro’s citizenship having voluntarily acquired the citizenship of the United States of America without renouncing his allegiance to Nigeria, the country of his birth.
Specifically, Michael Babatunde Ogun, Suleiman Olayinka Saheed and Wasiu Adeniyi Odusan, all PDP members in the state and initiator of the suit, are asking the court to determine Obanikoro’s eligibility to participate in the party’s governorship primaries fixed for December 8, "having previously presented a forged birth certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) contrary to Section 182(1) (J) of the 1999 Constitution”.
They are also asking the court for a perpetual injunction barring Obanikoro from accepting what they called “the PDP’s candidacy or nomination” to contest the next year’s governorship election in Lagos State until the matter was favourably disposed of.
Sued alongside Obanikoro are the INEC and the PDP.
