-Few Days To Her 60th Birthday Celebration
The untimely death of Damilola Ibitayo Akinkoye (nee Talabi), which
spread shock waves across Lagos, seemed to have pulled the curtain of hope. She died on Thursday, November 6, at St. Nicholas
Hospital, Lagos Island. Damilola was the daughter of Gladys Talabi,
the Executive Director, Legal Services, Globacom and a prominent society lady. She
was married to Modupe
Akinkoye, a lawyer with the Economic and

If she were not brutally plucked down in mid-life, in a flight of destiny aimed
at the most lofty heights, Damilola, probably, would have continued to radiate
joy and spread the sunshine that was her life. Even in death, she was
celebrated by her loved ones.

Sources disclosed to The
ELITES that Damilola slipped into Coma after she was admitted at the hospital. She
never recovered from the Coma till she breathed her last. Her husband, Modupe, who was with her when she died, was
reported to have been enveloped with such palpable shock that he went straight
home, switched off his phones and shut himself inside his room. It took quite a
supreme efforts, on the part of his family members and friends before he could
be taken back to the hospital to sign his wife’s death certificate.
Dazzling Damilola |
Damilola was buried on Friday, November 14, at the
Ikoyi Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi. Her burial ceremony recorded
a heavy attendance of family, friends and well-wishers, who came to celebrate
the life, not the death of the amiable lady. The ceremony kicked off on
Wednesday, November 12, with a Candle Light Service, held at her residence,
George Terrace Street, French Colony Estate, Agungi, Lekki. On Thursday,
November 13, the Service of Songs took place at Arch Bishop Vinning Memorial
Cathedral Hall, GRA, Ikeja. The Funeral Service was also held at Arch Bishop
Vinning. During the service, a deep sense of sorrow and loss pervaded the hall.
Although, there was no crying and wailing, gloom, like an overlord, held sway.
And save for the sonorous sound string and emotional songs, there was pin-drop
silence.
During her short sojourn on
earth, Damilola was known to be a very vivacious lady. Those who knew her would
attest to knowing a lady who had a zest for life and for living. She was always
full of life and she had a smile for anyone who came across her.

Her untimely death
notwithstanding, her family and friends are consoled by the knowledge that
Damilola lived and led a most remarkable life, during her short and eventful
sojourn on earth.
