Professor Yemi Osinbajo |
The All Progressive Congress (APC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo , yesterday disclosed that he is in a new territory that presents a unique chance to join his party’s presidential candidate, General Mohamadu Buhari to bring about a real positive change in the lives of the Nigerian people. “I have held office before but this is a new territory and a very unique opportunity”, he said.
Prof Osinbajo made this comments at a dinner held in his honour on Tuesday in Lagos by his close friends and associates. He told the gathering, most of which comprises his childhood friends, Pastors, and partners in his law chambers, that it is time to join the train and make a change.
He said: “I know that virtually all of us in this gathering are passionate about good governance, and prosperity of our beloved country. We have at various times wondered how to get the right people that can make a difference in government. For me, I have always wondered how we can get the right caliber of people into government. It is not that Nigeria is short of brilliant people, it is how to get them into the saddle that was the problem. It never occurred to me that the day will come when I will be where I am today to really have a chance at doing those things that have occupied my mind all these years. Nigerians must get it right this time”.
Osinbajo said before his nomination as a vice presidential candidate, he had met with General Buhari and have had very long conversations with him that at times spanned more than six hours at a time. Gen. Buhari is well known for his anti- corruption stance and Spartan life. He is a much disciplined man and I am sure that this team will make a difference in Nigeria. He maintained that current statistics show that the APC is well ahead of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the ratings of the people. He maintained that out of the six geographical zones in Nigeria, APC is leading I four zones. He therefore urged the gathering to become agents of change and join hands to rebuild Nigeria.
Dignitaries that attended the dinner include Pastor Itua Ighodalo, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Former Attorney General, Ogun State, Mr Akin Osinbajo, Lagos Finance Commissioner, Ayo Gbeleyi, Lagos Attorney General, Ade Ipaye, Chairman of Lagos Internal Revenue Service, Mr Babatunde Fowler, Mr Dapo Akinosun, and a host of other dignitaries.
