Stella Oduah |
The success of the forthcoming presidential election will boost Nigeria’s global democratic image and bring honour, dignity and granduer to the nation once seen as the giant of Africa and arsenal of democracy in the sub-region.
We urge INEC to be firm and decisive in conducting the polls and give equal opportunity to all participating political parties. The integrity of the commission’s Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega is at stake in this crucial election that will test the nation’s democratic process.
We further urge politicians to play by the electoral rules and guidelines as stipulated in the Electoral Act and the 1999 constitution as amended. It is time to eschew bitterness and violence, and imbibe issue-based politics that will enhance the nation’s frail democratic encounter.
While we support women active participation in politics and elections, we frown at the infantile uncouth utterances of some female candidates like Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, who in launching her still-born senatorial campaign at Central School, Omor, Ayamelu LGA, Anambra state enjoined her rented crowd not to be intimidated by the ruling APGA in the state describing the Partys cockerel symbol as bird flu.
As women of honour, we will not join issues with a controversial and ostentatious former aviation minister who dissipated energy and resources in purchasing unbudgeted bullet proof cars she and the ministry did not need in a depressed economy. Failed politicians and disgraced public office holders have no place in Anambra progressive politics. Anambra North Senatorial Zone is not a safe haven for extravagant political nonentities, wandering in political wilderness in the nation’s political firmament.
It is obvious that Anambra state is an APGA State and will remain the party’s stronghold in the next century. The APGA Tsunami has since torn the PDP’s umbrella in the state since 2006 former Governor Peter Obi assumed office on the Party’s platform and transformed the state to the Dubai of Africa which Governor Willie Obiano has sustained and will surpass his predecessor’s developmental projects in his one year in office.
We reiterate our support for the candidature of Chief Victor Umeh for Anambra Central Senatorial seat. Umeh is a man of the people with impeccable character and political savvy to effectively represent the zone and deliver democratic dividends to the good people of Anambra central.
We have confidence in his ability to work harmoniously with the state and federal governments in improving the standards of living of the masses in the zone. It is the combined heavy political weights of Governor Willie Obi Obiano, Sir Victor Umeh etc. that frighten and intimidate the Stella Oduahs of shattered and leaking umbrella in Anambra state politics.
It is a new dawn. It is a new beginning. The future starts today as all registered voters troop out en masse to vote for APGA in Anambra state, and indeed across the nation in the February polls. The APGA philosophy of one man, one vote will be strictly observed in all elections. We enjoin eligible voters to carry out their civic responsibilities without fear or favour in our collective quest at building a decent, progressive and prosperous democratic society.
