Northern Governors Meet In China, Seek Emir Sanusi’s Deposition

IMG_5953At least five Northern governors including governor of Kano State, Abudullahi Ganduje, have met in Guangzhou, China, where they resolved to take “severe action” against Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Governors from nine states are currently attending Nigeria Governors’ Investment Forum in China.
The embattled emir had fired a salvo at Messrs Ganduje and Yari during the just concluded Kaduna Investment Forum (KADINVEST 2.0) in Kaduna.
In his keynote speech at the forum, Mr Sanusi faulted Mr Ganduje’s planned light rail project in Kano, saying it was misplacement of priority. The emir also blasted Mr Yari for blaming fornication for the recent outbreak of meningitis in the country.
Led by the chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum and governor Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, the governors reached the resolution after a marathon meeting at Ritz Carlton Hotel on Sunday.
Sources said while majority of the governors present at the meeting supported Mr Sanusi’s deposition outright, two of the governors proposed probing of the emirate accounts and sanctions before the eventual removal.
According to the source, the governors noted that if the state allowed the emir to go “scot-free” without taking punitive measures against him, he would still continue talk against the governors.
“The governors deliberated on the issue at length, including the possible successor to the throne who will be acceptable to people. The wanted Ganduje to take severe action against the emir,” he said.
Present at the Guangzhou meeting were Governors Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Abubakar Bello of Niger State, Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State and Kashim Shettima of Borno State.
