Osinbajo Appoints Ex-Speaker Salisu Buhari, Others Into Advisory Council [Full List

IMG_7422The acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, has inaugurated the board of the Nigerian Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council on Tuesday, with a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari, as member.
Mr Buhari was forced to resign as speaker in July 1999, following age falsification and certificate forgery.
In his final speech before the House, Mr Buhari had tearfully apologized to his colleagues, nation, friends and family.
“I apologise to you. I apologise to the nation. I apologise to my family and friends for all the distress I have caused them.
“I was misled in error by zeal to serve the nation.
“I hope the nation will forgive me and give me the opportunity to serve again,” Mr Buhari, then 29, added.
In 2013, his appointment by the former President Goodluck Jonathan to serve as a member of the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, had generated controversy.
IMG_7425As a manufacturer and chairman of Rumbu Sacks, Mr Buhari was picked by Mr Osinbajo to serve as a member of the key advisory council, which the acting president himself chairs.
The council, which comprises representatives of the public and private sectors as well as a seven-member Technical Committee, will supervise policies that will speed up Nigeria’s industrialisation bid.

BREAKING: CAN’s Verdict: Sack Of Alausa Chaplain, Femi Taiwo, Is In Order

IMG_7298...Exonerates Governor Ambode's Wife, Says She's A True Woman of God
...Laments The Matter Is Being Overflogged In The Media

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Lagos State Chapter on Tuesday said the sack of the Presiding Chaplain, Chapel of Christ the Light, Venerable Femi Taiwo by the state government was in order.
At a news conference at the Chapel of Christ the Light, in Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, CAN Chairman, Lagos State, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola lamented that the matter had been over-flogged in the media and social media, especially by Punch Newspaper, saying that the government had the power to hire and fire.
Bamgbola also exonerated the wife of the governor, Bolanle Ambode from the sack of the chaplain, describing her as a woman God sent to bless this generation.
According to him, the church was built by the Lagos State Government for itself and for the public and consequently appointed two chaplains to run the affairs of the church, with the Presiding Chaplain as the senior.
He said it was the state government which created the anointing service and instituted a Governing Council to run the affairs of the church and report to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“The Governing Council has the constitutional responsibility to recruit and terminate the appointments of officers who run the chapel. Two officers run the affairs of the chapel, the Presiding Chaplain and the Chaplain. They are officers of the government, they are strictly employees of the state government and subject to terms and conditions of the government,” he explained.
Bamgbola stated emphatically that the Governing Council acted within its constitutional authority in terminating the appointment of the Presiding Chaplain.
In his words: “Having investigated the matter carefully and objectively, we wish to state that the governing council that recruited Venerable Femi Taiwo, acted within its constitutional authority to terminate his appointment.”
He added that it was wrong for the social media and the print media to point accusing finger at the state government for sacking one of its employees as it deemed fit.
The CAN Chairman said the accusation against Deaconess Bolanle Ambode was far from the truth.
“Mrs Ambode is a true woman of God who fears God and lives a godly life. God raised her at this time,” he said, adding that the dust generated by what occurred was unfair to her.
“The social media should desist from circulating unfounded reports. The Bible said judge not that you should not be judged. This matter should be closed and be left for the church to handle. We are more than able to handle all matters,” he said.
The Secretary of CAN, Israel Akinadewo added that CAN had taken over the matter as every Christians in Lagos State comes under the umbrella of the body, saying that the matter had been blown out of context.
Bishop of African Church, Diocese of Ifako, Rt. Rev. Michael Adeyemi said the matter was being managed by CAN and that the church trusted the judgment of CAN to do a good job and resolve the matter once and for all.

Stop The Rumour! MC Oluomo Not Behind Hamburger’s Death

IMG_7417A group, made up of supporters of Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as Mc Oluomo has risen defense of the popular National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The group maintained that Oluomo didn't know about the gruesome murder of another top member of the union, Rasaq Bello, popularly called Hamburger.
In a statement, sent to The ELITES, the group stressed that Oluomo was in the United States of America, where he is currently vacationing.
Below is the full text of the statement:
IMG_7418"It has come to the notice of the camp of Musiliu Akinsanya who is popularly known as MC Oluomo that some people are brandishing his name as the one behind the brutal murder of another prominent member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Rasaq Bello, popularly called Hamburger.
It should be known that as at the time of the primaries in the Shogunle area of Lagos during the local council primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that led to the death of Hamburger, MC Oluomo was away in the USA where he has been for some weeks now.
Aside being out of town, several times before now, he has sponsored advertorials both in newspapers and radio on the need to maintain law and order before and during the electioneering period based on what the national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered.
It is rather painful that the death of someone who had no prior problem with MC Oluomo could be linked to him.
This is an appeal to the general public to discard such damaging rumour. MC OLuomo knows nothing about the death and also abhors violence of any form not to talk of taking a life."

Osinbajo Rekindles Nigerians’ Hope In APC

IMG_7397Conscience Nigeria, a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), said the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had rekindled Nigerians’ hope in the administration of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Executive Director of the organisation, Mr Tosin Adeyanju, said Osinbajo achieved this in his Democracy Day broadcast to the nation on Monday.
Adeyanju in Abuja that the speech awakened positive consciousness of bright future in most Nigerians, who had lost hope in the administration and country.
“The country was full of so much hopelessness and disappointment but the acting president has reawakened our hope.
“In the about two years left for this administration the acting president has been able to rekindle hope and for us not to lose faith in APC administration,’’ Adeyanju said.
He said that the administration recorded some achievements in the areas of fighting insecurity and recovery of loots.
“If I must score the administration, they have done well on the issue of insecurity that he talked about but in the area of fight against corruption, it has been a media war.
“We have not seen any politically exposed person that has been properly prosecuted except the former governor of Adamawa.’’
Adeyanju added that the school feeding programme had been a source of concern, especially in this period of recession, when the cost of food had gone up.
According to him, government’s priority at this moment should not be on school feeding but on how to recover the economy, which has been a challenge to the country.
“I believe strongly that there is need for the acting president to rejig the economic team and put more money in productive sectors, not by putting more money in the school feeding programme.
“Such money should be invested in areas that will stimulate the economy and create jobs so that families can feed their children.
“The acting president should find a way of re-energizing the economy so that as he signs the budget, the economy can pick up because the tension out there is high,’’ he said.
The CSO director also advised the acting president to ensure that funds saved in the Sovereign Wealth Fund and Excess Crude Account translated into economic recovery and boom.
He said that the government was also doing well trying to recover stolen funds, but advised that culprits should be brought to book through proper prosecution.
Adeyanju also advised the acting president to immediately sign the 2017 budget to kick-start economic development of the country.
“Our appeal is also that Osinbajo should become more assertive and take charge of the country’s destiny because the cabals will continue to struggle power with him,’’ he added.

Maryam Mairo Aminu Tambuwal @40: Driving Developmental Agenda Through MMAWT Legacy Initiative

IMG-20170214-WA053By KEMI AKINYEMI
Hajia Maryam Mairo Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, wife of Sokoto governor, clocks 40 today, 27 May, 2017. The ELITES examines her initiative, The MMAWT Legacy, which she launched last year, to empower the less privileged and give governance in the state a human face.
The current harsh economic clime in the country has compelled state governments to devise viable strategies at managing dwindling revenue to tackle ever-rising responsibilities, not only in oiling the wheels of governance but also maintaining social and economic cohesiveness. Inevitably, some of the strategies adopted are not going down well with those who feel the bite hardest: the less privileged.
Sokoto State, seat of the Caliphate, is no exception in the search for viable economic solutions. What is remarkable about the state, however, is that a credible initiative is being undertaken, not only to educate the vulnerable segments of the society on government’s plans and reasons for its actions, but also to involve them in the evolution and execution of solutions to the problems. Also remarkable, the initiative is the brainchild of Hajia Maryam Mairo Mustapha Tambuwal, wife of the state governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
IMG_5655Known as the Maryam Mustapha Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (MMAWT) Legacy, the foundation’s primary aim is to give governance a human face in the state. This it intends achieving by mobilising the youth, caring for the elderly and vulnerable, and encouraging women from allstrata of the society. Focusing on driving and achieving the developmental agenda of the presentadministration in areas of going green, water and sanitation, employment, empowerment, talentidentification and management, MMAWT aims at creating more awareness on, among others, environmental sustainability – with issues like desertification and flooding in mind – and access to quality health care. In short, it is designed to uplift general societal well-being.

With components of education, enlightenment, mobilisation and participation under a carefully designed people-oriented and participatory initiative, MMAWT also intends to set up business ventures and skilled activities emanating from the rural poor, grassroots and other less empowered members of the society.
IMG_5657
Expressing its commitment to supporting various education intervention efforts includingproviding scholarships, refurbishing and building more classrooms in remote areas and villages,
as well as improving access to girl-child education and adult literacy, the foundation equally maintains its resolve to help improve health conditions in the rural areas.
The project is certainly very ambitious. But it is also realisable, if the formidable credentials of the brain behind it are anything to go by. A woman of many parts, Hajia Maryam MairoMustapha Tambuwal – niece to Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, the 14th Chief Justice of Nigeria and first woman to attain the position – has a track record of accomplishment in sectors as varied as telecoms, oil and gas, IT, and energy. The last of her parents’ five children, her mother, a successful businesswoman who died in February 2011, had roots in Guinea and Sierra-Leone; while her father, the late Malam Mustapha Balarabe, a close associate of the legendaryMalam Aminu Kano in the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), was a member of the House ofRepresentatives from Kano in the Second Republic.
IMG_5654Reputed for having an insatiable appetite for acquiring knowledge on every conceivable subject, Hajia Tambuwal attended Federal Government Girls College, Kazaure and Bayero University, Kano (BUK). She has also attended various courses in management and business, at London Business School, Lagos Business School, Harvard University, Wharton Business School, Pennsylvania; and top universities in, among other countries, South Africa, France and Malaysia. And to cap a distinguished career in the private sector, Hajia Tambuwal, in 2006, set up Oracle Integrated Service (OIS) Limited, an IT strategy, planning and business firm. The company organised the first ‘Nigeria's Presidential Campaign Poll’, in 2007.
Already, MMAWT is building an innovative framework, leveraging on the state’s recent signing of an agreement with UNICEF on the implementation of the 2016 work plan covering areas ofhealth, nutrition, education, water, sanitation and hygiene – to pave way for greater access by women and children in the scheme of things across the nooks and crannies of the state.
IMG_4938“It will be an added value for MMAWT Legacy empowerment initiative to identify with this laudable breakthrough between the government of Sokoto State and the UNICEF. As co-stakeholders, the MMAWT initiative will galvanise support for the successful implementation of the designed agreement, in line with best global practices and in tune with the sustainable development goals of eradicating abject poverty by creating sustainability, access to education, quality health care and sustainable means of livelihood to families and communities across the state,” says a confident Hajiya Tambuwal.
IMG_7330And to avoid the pitfalls that derailed similarly laudable programmes in past years, says HajiyaTambuwal, “a workable synergy is to be worked out for easier coordination and linkagesbetween government and identified stakeholders in the scheme as a measure of recording meaningful result and achieving result-oriented impact assessment.”
Who knows, we all may be witnesses to a veritable national empowerment model in the making.

Maryam Mairo Aminu Tambuwal: More Than A Governor’s Wife

IMG_7328By Hajiya Maryam Kamal Inuwa
May 27th is one of the longest days of the year. But its significance is much more than just that. Even in a world in which women in many countries have broken through the glass ceiling, it’s still not the one thing to remind a woman of her age or for that matter to ask her age. However, when they reach a milestone birthday, it’s permissible to make an exception. Apart from been a date that marks the children day celebration in Nigeria, May 27th is the birthday of Hajiya Maryam (Mairo) Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the founder of Maryam Mustafa Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (MMAWT) Legacy Initiative.
For past a year, she has dedicated her time, resources and energy busy creating awareness, supporting and promoting girl-child education, youth empowerment, awareness on diseases and epidemics, supporting widows, prisons inmates, juvenile Delinquents, orphans and less privilege. While NGO’s are today viewed as money making ventures in part of our world, her foundation has continued to sacrifices and contribute to humanity. The silent achievement of her NGO’s is first among equals in history of Sokoto State. Mairo has broken through cultural, geographical and gender barriers, letting the world know it’s not our circumstances, but our heart that determines how far you go in this world. Hajiya Mairo’s influence has spread far and wide. She has used her power and status to contribute to human development; she has inspired women, widow, orphan and less privilege with her openness, compassion and vision of a better world. Hajiya Mairo today apart from been the spouse of Governor Tambuwal, her NGO is now a rallying point to the entire sakwattawa’s; especially the women, widows and orphans who she has continued to rule their hearts and minds with the glaring contribution and the achievement of her pet project.
Her astuteness, conduct, simplicity and charm are already an everlasting print in the mind of those she has been assisting through her pet project. Today, its undeniable fact that Hajiya Mairo women is already carving a niche for herself in the chronicles of history with the contribution of her pet project to the people of the caliphate State. Through MMAWT Legacy Initiative; women, widows and orphans are continued to be empowered in other to improve their lives hoods. The NGO has also been forefront in campaign for adult education, safe-drinking water, Girl-Child education, Cancer awareness, healthcare awareness on (malaria, meningitis, cholera, polio, tuberculosis and measles) through radio jingles, agriculture activities, crafts and food processing. These women have not only moved towards self-sufficiency, but in some instances, they were in the vanguard of self-reliance which will automatically lead to economic growth and development of Sokoto State.
The celebrant, Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal is a woman endowed with charisma, intelligence, wisdom, knowledge and compassion which made her an ideal personality in many ways. As a politician daughter and wife of a politician, she has never been shy of contributing to the best of imaginable capabilities. She is Mairo in every manner, thus being an icon to many women not only in Sokoto State, but Nigeria. Mrs. Mairo Tambuwal’s enthusiasm for humanity has made her a role model for many in championing the cause and supporting of less privilege. Today, she is already dubbed as Sokoto State’s Jackie Kennedy for been a pillar of support and encouragement to her husband’s administration. It's not an implausible comparison. She has often brought smiles on the faces of many people particularly because of her sense of style of humbleness, openness and passion to support humanity. She has the same ease, cosmopolitan nature, accommodating, self-confidence, natural presence, and aura of personality as her husband, Governor Tambuwal.
Hajiya Mairo is a daughter who knew the tribulations of cloistered confinement, a bride who has been supporting her husband and a mother figure who could easily move with people regardless of their race, religion, gender or status. She is indeed a woman of honour who gave honour and raised the honour of her womanhood by giving them an identity. She is a fine example and worthy of emulations for young ladies, wives of public officials and wives of politicians to emulate in other to build independent lives and take our society forward in this, still young century. She has been preaching dedication and selfless service to our country, our people and to the pristine of values of justice, equality and freedom in these struggling countries of ours. As Governor Tambuwal’s story is now part of Sokoto State and Nigeria’s folklore with his silent achievement both as a Speaker of House of Representatives and currently as a Governor, its undeniable fact that Hajiya Mairo Tambuwal is no doubt a partner in progress that is close to the equal of her husband’s with her dedication and commitment to the plight of women, widows, orphans and children in Sokoto State.
The Caliphate State which is ranked among the lowest in the country in terms of enrolment of Girl-child education is now trending courtesy of her NGO’s advocacy which she is carrying from community to community and door to door in Sokoto State. Within two years, she had encouraged and boosted school enrolment which will definitely increase literacy level among females in Sokoto State. As a Governor’s wife, Hajiya Tambuwal has demonstrated her steadfastness and irrepressibly demonstrated unwavering support to the good governance and delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Caliphate State by the administration of her husband through her foundation.
Hajiya Mairo Mustafa nee Tambuwal knows what it means to be unique. Like her beloved husband, Mairo now stands in the antechamber of history with her contribution to humanity and development of Sokoto State. There is no gainsaying that MMAWT Legacy Initiative is a foundation that has touched the lives of many and is still doing much more to put smiles on faces, homes and communities. Happy birthday and happy many returns to a woman who is so much more than a Governor’s wife.
