World Economic Forum: Dr Awele Elumelu Appointed Gavi Champion For Immunisation In Africa


Prominent African business and healthcare sector leader Dr Awele Elumelu welcomed her appointment as a Gavi Champion for Immunisation in Africa.
Adele is the beautiful wife of prominent African entrepreneur and philanthropist, Dr Tony Elumelu, the chairman of United Bank for Africa, UBA and Heirs Holdings.
"Childhood immunisation is a critical intervention and I am honoured to play a role in this important programme, targeting almost 10 million African children, who are not fully immunised,” said Dr Elumelu during the announcement at the Gavi-hosted breakfast meeting at WEF-Davos 2018.

Gavi CEO Dr Seth Berkley emphasised the significance of Dr Elumelu’s appointment, which comes at a critical time for the Vaccine Alliance – the 2018 Mid-Term Review of progress towards realising its 2016-2020 mission.
“We are delighted that Dr Elumelu will bring her knowledge and expertise from health and business sectors towards championing the cause of immunisation. Her engagement will be particularly important this year, as we move towards the Mid-Term Review, where the Vaccine Alliance will report on progress made in reaching its goals halfway through our five-year strategy,” he said.A general physician, Dr Elumelu is Trustee of the Tony Elumelu Foundation and a leading voice in Africa’s healthcare sector. She serves as Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited and CEO of Avon Medical Practice, and leads the healthcare investments of African proprietary investment group Heirs Holdings.
With her extensive healthcare and business experience, Dr Elumelu will play a critical role in furthering the work of the Vaccine Alliance in Africa. In accepting her new immunisation role, she lauded the effectiveness of the Gavi business model and its potential for bringing greater health and opportunity to Africans.
“Gavi’s unique approach of bringing together public and private players is an example to us all, not least in Africa, where governments and the private sector need to work much more closely together, to deliver economic opportunity and social good,” said Dr Elumelu.

Buhari Celebrates His Main Man, Gov Amosun On His 60th Birthday


President Muhammadu Buhari has joined all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and citizens of Ogun State in congratulating his main mab, Governor Ibikunle Amosun on his 60th birthday.
President Buhari in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, felicitated with all the family, friends and professional colleagues of the “visionary political leader, legislator and administrator.’’
The president noted that Amosun’s foray into public service had continued to stimulate and inspire the younger generation on the value of patriotism and the beauty of selflessly living for the good of humanity.
He added that Amosun’s rich experience in the private sector, broadmindedness, wise counsels and penchant for always treading the path of peace and greater good for majority contributed to the stability enjoyed in his state.
President Buhari also noted with delight the ongoing developmental strides in education, health and security being recorded in Ogun.
He, therefore, affirmed that “Amosun’s courage and pacesetting strides in pushing for improved life for the underprivileged and unrelenting position on the unity and stability of Nigeria are legacies that posterity will continually remember and celebrate.’’
The President prayed that the almighty God would bless Amosun, grant him more years of good health, strength and wisdom to serve his country.

Mary J. Blige Gets Double Oscar Nomination For ‘Mudbound

Not only did Mary J. Blige earn her first-ever Oscar nomination, but she’s also a double nominee at the 90th annual Academy Awards.
The longtime singer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mudbound, the Dee Rees-directed Netflix film about two families -- one black and one white -- struggling to survive during the post-War, Jim Crow era in rural Mississippi. Blige was also nominated for Best Original Song for “Mighty River,” which she wrote and sang for the film.
Mudbound is only Blige’s fifth film role since making her debut in 2001’s Prison Song. She has since appeared in Rock of Ages and Black Nativity and has guest-starred on Empire and How to Get Away With Murder.
This is not the first time Blige was a double nominee this awards season. She was previously nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes. Her Mudbound role has also earned her nominations for Critics' Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Award and a trophy for Breakout Actress at the Hollywood Film Awards.
Mudbound also made history when Rachel Morrison became the first woman ever nominated for Oscar's Best Cinematography award.
The 90th annual Academy Awards will be hosted live by Jimmy Kimmel at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 4 starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on ABC.

Pastor Adeboye Salutes Adams On Installation As Aare Ona Kakanfo, Regrets Inability To Attend

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has congratulated Dr. Gani Adams on his installation as the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.
The revered man of God stated this in a letter to Aare Adams, who is also the National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress and the Oodua Progressive Union.
Pastor Adeboye, however, regretted his inability to attend the installation on January 13, 2018 at Durbar Stadium in Oyo town, Oyo State.
He said it was as a result of his work of evangelism both within and outside Nigeria.
The letter, dated January 17, 2018, reads: “Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father. We greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
“We congratulate you on your installation as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.
“We regret our inability to attend. Constraints include scheduled annual commitments year in year out at home and abroad.
“Be assured of our continuous love and prayers.”
Aare Adams was installed on January 13, 2018 by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.

Last Saturday, 13 January, 2018, the traditional and engagement wedding ceremony between Muibat Eniola and Abdul Yekini Oyekanmi was held in Lagos. The event took place at Habour Point Event Centre, Victoria Island.
The groom is the son of late HRM Oba Yekini Adeniyi Elegushi Kusenla 11, and Olori Sinat Titilayo Elegushi. He is also the younger brother of HRM One Saheed Ademola Elegushi Kusenla 111(Elegushi of Ikate Land).
The bride is the daughter of Chief Abdul Azeez Abimbola Oladunjoye, a prominent lawyer and Honourable Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, a former Commissioner for Education in Lagos State and a current Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
The very classy event attracted the creme de la creme of the Lagos Social Establishment, most of who were at the event at the behest of Oba Saheed Elegushi and his family
On the bandstand to entertain the guest was Fuji Czar, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal.
