Barely five years after the crash of her marriage to Yomi
Edu, the Lagos born politician, Fatima Isa Wali decided to take a plunge into
marriage again. The highly
successful architect is now married to Suraj Abdulrahman, a retired Military
General. Since they got married, the couple has become inseparable and they
strive to make the most of the moments they share together. Sources disclosed
that Suraj was a rock of support for Fatima, after her marriage to Edu crashed.
His involvement and depth of commitment to her, led most people to believe that
the affair had all the potentials of crystallising a marriage. And it did,
eventually.
Fatima is the former wife of Chief Yomi
Edu, the former Minister for Special Duties and prominent politician. Her marriage to Yomi is blessed with three
children; Luqman, Sadiq and Farouq. These three young men love their mother to
bits and they make no pretence of the fact that their world revolves around
her. Fatima brought up her sons to have a passion for helping underprivileged
children. While growing up, their mother made it imperative for them to visit
orphanage homes on regular basis. Predictably, Fatima’s first son, Luqman has
developed a passion for helping the underprivileged. He has a charity known as
TELD, through which he organizes various programmes, especially football
matches with his friends to raise funds for orphanage homes. Through TELD,
Luqman and his two brothers have made appreciable impact. The three young brothers have been able to raise substantial amount of money, which
they use in giving scholarship awards to orphans as well as doing
construction works in some orphanage homes.
Fatima is the
daughter of the Ambassador Isa Wali, the former Nigerian Ambassador to the
United States. Following the death of her husband in 1967, Fatima’s
mother, Hajia Zainab got married to Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, the former Sultan of
Sokoto. Having lost her father when she was barely ten, Fatima and her
sister, Maryam, the wife of Justice Mohammed Uwais, grew up to know Alhaji
Dasuki as their father. Fatima had her
early education at St. Saviour’s School, Corona School and Queen’s
College, Yaba, Lagos. Later, she enrolled
at the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, to study Architecture. However,
during her second year in ABU, Fatima transferred to the University of
Minnesota, USA, from where she bagged a degree in Architecture and a minor in
Urban Studies. Later, she bagged a Master degree in Economics and Management
Construction from the University College, London. Today, Fatima Wali ranks
top as one of the most prolific architects in the country. She has a fertile
experience in her field and she has proved to be a thoroughbred professional.
Prior to setting up her own architectural firm, Fatima Wali had worked with
several companies, including Alpha Properties, Femi Majekodunmi and Associates
among others. In 1994, she co-established Participant Properties Limited, which
was into property development and management. However, when the portfolio of
the company grew bigger, there was a need to establish another company that
will take away the job of the property management from Participant Properties,
so as to allow it to concentrate on it’s construction duties. Subsequently, Fatima
decided to set up Filmo Realty Limited, with its corporate headquarters in
Victoria Island.
