-"I CANNOT STEP DOWN FOR ANYBODY"
Honourable Opeyemi Bamidele, the Labour Party candidate in the Ekiti
State gubernatorial election, billed to hold next Saturday, has come out
to debunk the rumour, which centered on him, decamping to the People’s
Democratic Party, PDP.
Early this morning, the rumour mill was agog with the news that Bamidele
had dumped his party and stepped down for the PDP candidate, Ayodele Fayose. According
to the peddlers of this rumour, Bamidele had attended a meeting with some top
PDP stalwarts, and which lasted all night. The rumour kite which was flown by Ayodele Fasoye's camp, claimed that Bamidele agreed to to stepped down, after he was promised a Ministerial slot and the Senate Presidency.
However, while describing such claim as spurious, Bamidele, a former Commissioner of Information in Lagos State and a member of the House of Representatives, assured his
teeming supporters he was still very much in the race. In his words, “It has
just been brought to my knowledge the rumors being spread by our envious
detractors... I am here on this platform to dispel such rumors and to assure
Ekiti kete that I am still in the race, under the Labour party and have no plan
of stepping down for anybody or switching to any party. I am a bona fide member
of the Labour Party (LP) and I remain her gubernatorial candidate”
Reacting to the rumour, Bolanle Olatunde Bruce,
spokesperson for the Ekiti State Labour Party, described it as a “lie from the pit
of hell”. According to her, “Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele of the Labour Party
is in the Ekiti Government race to win. Ekiti people want a clean break from
the past (both Fayemi & Fayose). No meeting was held and no deal was
sealed. Our pact is with the good people of Ekiti. Ayo Fayose's past is
obviously haunting him, hence he is afraid of the Ark of God that has arrived
Ekiti for good. No amount of street-like tactics or tantrums can stop this Ark
of God from berthing in Ekiti. MOB is the man of the people, Labour Party is
the worker friendly party.
