The Acting Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate General in Lagos, Rhonda Watson, said: “No USAID poll was taken in Osun
The United States Aid Agency for International Development has denied conducting the poll that gave the lead to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the August 9 governorship poll in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
There was a press report quoting USAID as having said Omisore was the leading contender in
But the agency on Friday said it did not conduct any poll on the Osun State election.
The Acting Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate General in Lagos, Rhonda Watson, said: “No USAID poll was taken in Osun.”
Quoting a one-paragraph response from USAID, Democracy and Governance Team, Abuja, the United States agency said: “None of USAID Peace and Democracy Governance Implementing Partners (P/DG IPs) support or plan to support any election related opinion polls in Osun.”
Reacting to the development, the All Progressives Congress, on which platform the incumbent, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, would be seeking reelection, said of the PDP and Omisore on the purported poll: “They are shameless liars who will implicate anybody at all costs through their lying addiction.”
It was the APC that contacted USAID to provide it with a copy of the findings of the alleged poll for verification.
The party therefore described the PDP in Osun State as a band of liars who cannot be trusted with the finances of the state.
According to the APC, the greatest weapon of a thief is an incredible ability to lie without scruples.
“Liars and thieves cannot replace Rauf Aregbesola,” the APC said, adding: “The good people of Osun know that the PDP cannot win on August 9, because liars and looters form its core leadership.”
