The outgoing governor, who is the second governor in the history of the state to complete his four-year term, was received by a mammoth crowd of Isan indigenes, friends and well wishers who had been waiting him at Ilafon boundary of the town since 10am.
Outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday evening made a triumphal entry into Isan Ekiti, his country home, after leaving the Government House, Ado Ekiti.
The outgoing governor, who is the second governor in the history of the state to complete his four-year term, was received by a mammoth crowd of Isan indigenes, friends and well wishers who had been waiting him at Ilafon boundary of the town since 10am.
Fayemi, who alighted from his vehicle at the boundary around 2pm, trekked with his kinsmen to the palace of the Onisan of Isan, Oba Sunday Ajiboye, who thereafter prayed for him.
The crowd also followed him to his residence thereafter.
The communities members sang songs of victory that their son had served the state well and returned home hale and hearty.
Some of the community members who spoke with journalists said they were happy that the governor did them proud.
They added that no community in the state could deny the impact made by the Fayemi-led administration on the communities.
Oba Ajiboye thanked the governor’s aides for playing a major role in his success.
The monarch said there is still light at the end of the tunnel as all mysteries behind the June 21 election would be revealed.
Oba Ajiboye said he was thankful that Fayemi never let them down as he reigned gloriously.
In his remarks, Fayemi said all efforts made by his government in transforming the state would have been futile if not for God’s support.
He thanked God and the people of the town for supporting him till the end.
It was a moment of encomium for the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as the former Governors of the state, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Chief Segun Oni, thanked him for not disappointing them throughout his tenure.
The two former governors joined members of the outgoing State Executive Council at a valedictory session held at the Exco Chamber of the new Government House, Ayoba in Ado Ekiti to give their assessment of the performance of Fayemi.
Adebayo, who was the first elected governor of the state, said he was always happy when Fayemi’s strides were lauded by national and international organizations as unprecedented in the state.
The former governor said there was no gainsaying that the achievements of the outgoing administration dwarfed those of its predecessors.
Also speaking, Fayemi’s immediate predecessor and National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Segun Oni, said the Fayemi-led government was only embarking on a temporary leave because the mission had not yet been completed.
Oni added that he was proud that his party, the APC, has done well for the people of the state.
Some of the members of the SEC who spoke at the session, thanked Fayemi immensely for the opportunity given them to serve.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, who led the Council in songs of thanksgiving to God, expressed optimism that the administration would bounce back because its vision was of God.
Adelabu thanked Fayemi for believing in her and making her a dependable partner in the development of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Tayo Ekundayo, said he accepted the offer to serve in Fayemi’s cabinet because of the panache with which the governor ran government.
All other commissioners and Special Advisers took turn to deliver their valedictory speeches, which was limited to two minutes.
The dominant theme in the valedictory session, which held at the conference hall of the Ayoba Villa, was the transformational nature of the administration and the need for members of the exco to continue to be in the vanguard of advocacy for good governance in the state.
Rounding off the session, Governor Fayemi thanked the exco members for believing in his vision and working with him to transform the state.
Commenting on his predecessor in office, Fayemi said that the biggest miracle of his four-year tenure was the decision of Oni to forget the past and join hands with him in moving the state forward.
He said only a true lover of democracy and a true democrat and patriot could have done what Oni did, adding that the former governor’s wise counsel since their new relationship began has been quite enriching.
