FOR THE FIRST TIME, EBOLA HITS UNITED STATES

The United States has confirmed its first case of Ebola Virus Disease. Though Nancy Writebol and Kent Brantely, two US citizens who contracted the virus in Liberia, were treated in American hospitals,w no case of Ebola had been confirmed in the country. However, on Tuesday, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention disclosed that the first domestic appearance of the highly-contagious virus had been established in America. Earlier on Monday, officials of the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas said an unnamed patient had been placed in isolation based on recent travel history and symptoms of the hemorrhagic fever. The United States has offered assistance to countries affected by the virus, which has killed over 3, 000 people. Only one Ebola death has been recorded outside West Africa, that of septuagenarian Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, which occurred on August 12.
