NAWOJ MOURNS REMI OYO

-Says She was an Iconic Woman Journalist

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has received with heavy heart, the news of the death of an icon, a woman journalist per excellence and former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Dame Oluremi Oyo.

Oluremi Oyo, who was spokesperson to President Olusegun Obasanjo, is one woman journalist in this country that had set a precedence for women journalists to emulate.
Remi, as she always asked to be called is known for her relentless zeal and love for the journalism profession, which made her stand out among her peers including her male contemporaries at a time when the woman journalist was not recognized.
All who had worked with her attest to the fact that she was indeed a hardworking journalist, who knew her onion and also a mother who made everybody’s problem her problem.

Oyo’s work in the News Agency of Nigeria speaks for itself; at a time when the agency was growing redundant, Remi revived the place and now NAN prides itself as a News Agency of International Repute.
Her demise comes as a shock to the association and we the members of this association will continue to mourn her. She will remain immortalized in our hearts.
NAWOJ hereby urges all journalists especially women journalists to emulate the exemplary life set by Dame Oluremi Oyo, a Journalist per-excellence and a true mother.
Her loss is indeed a loss to the entire nation. NAWOJ prays for the repose of her soul.
We also pray God to console all who she has left behind and grant us all especially her immediate family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
