Labake Yembra |
Some months ago, Labake walked by herself into a hospital in Festac for what could be termed a minor surgery. Today, she lays in a bad shape at the Lagoon Hospital. A fundraising drive has been kicked off to save the life of Labake Lateef Yembra, a staff of ThisDay. Tagged Labake Lateef Yembra Must Not Die!’ the initiative is aimed at raising N15m urgently to save the life of the woman. A message sent by the committee in charge reads: Dear Friends, Colleagues And People Of Goodwill, The two photos you see belong to one person. One was when she was well and bubbly while the other is when ill health has dealt her a heavy hand. Labake Yembra is our friend, while some of you will remember her for her industry and passion at the Advert Department of Thisday Newspapers, the other will know her on Facebook, where she expressed herself like most Nigerians on myriad of issues from hard economic and political subjects to soft, social matters. Labake is down, she is not yet out – but she will, if we do not rally to her rescue. Some months ago, she walked by herself into a hospital in FESTAC, Lagos, for what could be termed a minor surgery to remove Hernia but today, she lays in a bad shape at the Lagoon Hospital, Apapa, Lagos, having slipped into a coma after failing to recover from anesthesia seven hours after the surgery. To compound her already critical case, she recently suffered a massive stroke and is now hanging on to life via life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. She still has a chance of survival. Her family is stretched to the limit, financially and emotionally. If they can cope, albeit with great difficulty, with the emotional challenges, the financial strain of her condition is wearing them down and they have no other option but to seek help from friends and indeed the general public. So far her situation has gulped a whopping N9m and over N10m is still outstanding on her bill, as doctors battle to save her life. We must not, dear children of God, let Labake die without us trying our best for her. She must not allow her immediate family alone bear this unfortunate burden of taking care of an otherwise vibrant and resourceful woman. Let’s show once again that we are good Nigerians, very caring people with hearts of gold. Please reach down the bottom of your heart and give whatever pleases you in support of this humble effort to save Labake. We are looking for N15m in the first instance, but if we get more to God be the glory. The Account number to send your donations to is: Account Number: 1009919478.
