Chief Olabode Ibiyinka George, the former
National Deputy-Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP,
will be holding a thanksgiving service to celebrate his recent acquittal by the
Supreme Court. The event comes up tomorrow, Saturday, January 25, at The
Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos. This will then be followed by a
reception at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan.
Fondly called Lagos Boy by his admirers, George,
who served as board chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, was convicted
in October 2009, for fraud and abuse of office, by a Lagos High Court. In 2011,
he was released from Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison after serving 18 months
at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. George was treated to a rousing
reception, from his supporters, and he hosted a thanksgiving service, which was
broadcast live on African Independent Television, AIT. Already, a group, known
as ‘Friends of BG’ has taken up advert spaces in newspaper to announce the big
event, slated to hold tomorrow. His wife, Roli is also warming up for the big
event.
