In line with the custom of Akureland, Princess Adetutu Adesida- Ojei, the first daughter of the late traditional ruler of Akureland, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida, has been installed as the Regent of the town. The late Deji died of an undisclosed ailment on Sunday, December 1, 2013. He was aged 63 and he is survived by his wife, Mojisola and four children-Adetutu, Adeniyi, Adetunji and Adetoun.

Princess Adesida was installed after after several traditional rites for the passage of her father had been concluded. She has since been receiving Akure traditional Chiefs and prominent persons on homage to the palace.
The traditional installation of the Regent took place at the palace of the town and was carried out by the chiefs. She will be on the throne until the installation of another monarch. The monarchial system in Akureland is such that any contender jostling for the position of the Deji should have a female child. In the event that the Deji dies, his daughter will be installed as a Regent.

Princess Adetutu, 36, attended Queens School, Ibada and holds a Doctor of Pharmacy, from Texas Southern University, Houston and she is a licensed pharmacist, based in the United States of America. Until her appointment as Regent, Princess Adetutu worked as a clinical pharmacist with the University Health system, Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She is married to Diche Ojei, a native of Itshekiri, Delta State and their union is blessed with three children.
