Today,
Friday, April 25, 2014, the remains of Professor Emeritus Cornelius Olaleye
Taiwo, renowned educationist, administrator and lawyer will be committed to
mother earth. Pa. Taiwo died on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his Ikeja residence
in Lagos. He was aged 103.
The
funeral rites of the foremost educationist began on Tuesday, April 22, with a
Service of Songs, which was held at 24 Oduduwa Street, Ikeja GRA. On Wednesday,
April 23, the Commendation Service took place at the All Saints’ Church, Yaba.
On Thursday, the Lying-in-State of the late sage took place at the College of
Education Auditorium, University of Lagos, Akoka. The Christian Wake-Keep was
held at Taiwo’s Villa, Agbon Street, Oru, Ijebu, Ogun State. The funeral rites
will climax with a Church Service at St. Luke’s aNGLICAN church, Oru, Ijebu,
while the reception will hold at the family’s home, also in Oru, Ijebu. The
colour code for the day is any shade of blue.
Pa Taiwo, who was Nigeria's oldest Professor, lived
a well-rounded life. As an academic, acquisition of knowledge was his second
nature and this was evident in the array of enviable accomplishment he acquired during his lifetime. Pa. Taiwo is survived by, Yemi Sowemimo, Ladi and Taiwo
Taiwo, Bayo and Femi Taiwo and Modupe and Lanre Ogunlesi, 13 grandchildren and
many great grandchildren.
