A hilarious scene played out at an Ikare-Akoko Customary Court when a man demanded that his ex- wife be made to return all the household utensils he bought for her while the marriage lasted.
The husband, Emmanuel Asala, 55, begged the court to order his estranged wife, Busayo, to return all household items like cooking pot, stove, spoon, grinding stone, deep freezer and some of the serving plates the woman went away with.
Asala had approached the court to reclaim his property, which he said, his former wife packed away after the same court had dissolved their marriage.
The property listed by the plaintiff included broom, grinding stone, tablespoon, mortar, pestle and deep freezer among others.
He also claimed that the former wife also stole the sum of N85, 000 after she allegedly broke the box where he kept the money and the receipts of his property.
In addition, Asala claimed that Busayo owed him the sum of N110, 000 being the amount of money he lent her.
While giving evidence, he tendered a statement of account allegedly belonging to Busayo which the court accepted as an exhibit and marked 1A.
In her defence, Busayo denied ever stealing his money or breaking any box and further said that she had never seen the box with her former husband while the marriage lasted. She produced a receipt for the iron shack bearing her name.
In its judgment, the court observed that since the plaintiff did not produce any written agreement about the loan or receipts covering the said properties, the court cannot act imaginarily.
