Toyin Saraki

The International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women was marked last week in Abuja by the Premium Logic's Friend raiser community (the SHE forum).

The gender conference had about 200 women from multi-generations across Africa in attendance to discuss ways violence against women could be addressed nationally and globally.

The maiden SHE forum with the theme "Gender in Equality - Redefining Feminism also had the Wellbeing Foundation Africa founder Mrs. Toyin Saraki in attendance.
In her keynote address,  Saraki said feminism should be redefined to protect women around the world from violence, while

highlighting the need for young girls to be empowered to become change agents.
Speaking on the topic 'Gender in Equality, the Woman as a Game

Changer,' Mrs. Toyin Saraki, shared statistics of abuse against women, and said "Violence against women - including couple violence, rape and female genital mutilation is not just an African problem but a global problem."

Mrs Saraki stressed that women are the game-changers the world desperately needs for global development.

She emphasized that gender equality was a human rights issue, saying

"We must engage men at every level and work together to clear up misconceptions about feminism. To coincide with this, we must educate our children about gender equality. Setting a positive example now for our boys will redefine how they view women."

Guests at the event included Aisha Babangida, Anne Okigbo, Folake Agunbiade, Amina Salihu, Onyeka Onwenu and actress Kate Henshaw, who identified persisting gender issues hindering the growth and productivity of women in local communities.
