As the race for the governorship position of Imo State gathers momentum, top aspirants to the seat have rejected zoning of governorship position in the state but called on the people of the state to ensure that a most credible man emerges as the next governor of the state in 2015.
The aspirants— the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO, Prof. Jude Njoku and a chartered financial controller, Mr Ken Ojiri—made the assertion weekend during the public presentation of a new local tabloid, National Newsbreak, in Owerri.
The two aspirants, who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo should be able to produce the best governor in 2015 whether zoning or not.
According to Njoku, “We need a change in the political landscape of Imo State. We need a governor the people can trust. We should be able to install a good governor that is credible. Anambra people have sorted themselves out and Imo is still lagging very seriously behind.
“Therefore, we need to pick people with a name, not those without a clear cut identity irrespective of where they come from and Imo people know those people among the aspirants”.
The former FUTO VC said he did not need to talk about himself as according to him, majority of the people of the state know him enough to talk about him.
Also speaking, Ojiri who was represented by his director of media, Mr. Nnamdi Co-Ukwuoma, re-echoed what Njoku said, adding that irrespective of zoning, the best candidate should emerge as the next governor of the state in 2015 and that credible persons is himself.
“One thing is clear; because of the exigencies of the time, PDP does not need someone who has the muscle to win a party primary, but one who has enough credibility to win a general election.”Ken Ojiri is the most credible of all the aspirants, the most intellectually sound, the most exposed, the most humane, the most millennium compliant, an astute manager of resources, a quintessential family man and a perfect gentleman.
”Ojiri has all it takes to bring out our dear state from the shackles of misrule and economic quagmire. He can be safely trusted to deliver optimally”, he said, adding that the people of the state should be wise enough to choose the best in 2015.
