Barely two years after the special adviser (Administration) to the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu, Pastor Emmanuel Adoba was murdered in cold blood in Owerri, his successor, Hon. Kingsley Nkemka has also been assassinated by unknown gunmen.
Nkemka, who was the special adviser (Administration) to the speaker, recently declared his interest to represent Mbaitoli /Ikeduru Federal constituency at the green chambers of the House of Representatives.
He was said to have scheduled to hold a pre-campaign eventon Thursday before he was attacked and killed by the gunmen.
He was shot dead along Nworie-ubi- Mbieri Road in Mbaitoli LGA.
Nkemka was said to have gone to the village to settle pending financial obligations and was returning back to Owerri when his vehicle was surrounded by five motorcycles. All five assassins were said to have opened fire at the same time and disappeared when they were convinced their victim had been eliminated.
A former lawmaker, Nkemka represented Mbaitoli state constituency at the House of Assembly in 1991.
Until his gruesome death, Nkemka, like his predecessor, Adoba, was also one of the most trusted aides of the Speaker.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Andrew Enwerem (DSP), confirmed the incident to our reporter in Owerri, saying that Nkemka was attacked at8.05 pm by the hoodlums.
According to him, the killing appeared to be politically motivated as the killers did not take anything from the deceased’s vehicle after killing him.
The PPRO said that the police had launched an investigation to unmask the gunmen and their sponsors.
It would be recalled that Nkemka’s predecessor, Adoba was assassinated in cold blood by machete men. He was killed on August 1, 2012, while his body was found dismembered with machete cuts.
