This is the story of how a highly revered monarch in a state
in the South-West married his best friend’s wife. The story has been generating
a swirl of controversy within the society for so many years. And this has
prompted The ELITES to unearth the story of how Queen T became the Oba’s
wife. According to the story,
which has now become the most discussed issue within the Lagos social circuit,
Queen T’s husband, KR was the best friend of the Oba. The late KR was a
Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Lands. He died in 1989, at
the age of 42, leaving behind his wife, Queen T and two young children. It was
gathered that it was while she was observing her mourning period that Queen T
got close to the Oba. By and large, an intimate affair was established between
them. Subsequently, this led to their eventual marriage, and Queen T became the
Oba\s fourth wife. Predictably, the union drew the anger of Titi’s in-law, who
felt it was inappropriate. However, the Oba was reported to have defended his
decision to marry his best friend’s wife by claiming that he wouldn’t want her
to suffer. And with the passage of time, the KR’s family refused to give their
consent to the union.
Invariably, the
silent war between the Oba and family of his late best friend was re-ignited
during the wedding of Queen T’s son some years ago. The family of KR was
reported to have frowned at being upstaged during the event. Thus, when it was the
turn of Queen T’s second daughter, to be married, they decided to have it their
own way. It was gathered that during the engagement ceremony, the Oba succeeded
in dictating the scheme of things. Following the engagement ceremony, the Oba
moved the reception party to his palace. This was reported to have irked KR’s
family. And it was at this point that they put their foot down and resolved
that they were going to dictate the tune during the wedding proper. The bride’s
family was reported to have instructed that the invitation card must not carry
the name of the Oba. Of course, this decision did not go down with the Oba. He
was reported to have instructed the bride’s mother, not to co-operate with her
late husband’s family. However, with the intervention of some people, Queen T
got the Oba’s consent to participate in her only daughter’s wedding. However, the
Oba decided to stay away from the wedding ceremony. The highly respected
monarch was reported to have felt angry with the groom’s family, Sir SO, for
refusing to pay him a visit at the palace for the customary royal blessing for
the newly weds.
It was following
after this wedding event that the Lagos society became agog with the story of
how Queen T ended up being the fourth wife of her late husband’s best friend.
