Prior to the starting of this magnificent event of its kind in the history of the state, news broke that the opposition party (ies) in the state were at it again, trying to mount pressure on the top hierarchy of the NBA to stop the Conference from holding in Imo, using the Ebola scar as an excuse to achieve their aim. However the NBA leadership, stood their grounds on the matter and as we all know, the Annual National Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA is ongoing in Owerri, the Imo State capital, at the international convention centre adjudged as the best in the history of Imo State and the state is expected to host over ten thousand NBA delegates at the conference.
The crux of this report therefore is based on the attitude of one of the aspirants on the platform of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who in recent times, had been at loggerheads with his state governor.
One is the fact that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is a lawmaker, conferred on him by virtue of his being not only a member of the House of the Representatives but the Deputy Speaker of the House and the number six person on the hierarchy list of the federal authority and this position confers on him, the responsibility to honour our national anthem as we were taught from cradle to adulthood!
Two things come to mind as the reason(s) why he decided to debase our national anthem in that manner. One is the fact that as the conference was starting, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was seen being greeted with jeers and boos by the mammoth crowd who besieged the entrance of the venue. Two is that fact that he claims that his State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is not working and he, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is seen, seated inside the International Convention Centre, built for the first time in Imo State by the same man he claim is not performing.
Whatever the reasons for his actions are, the Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha should remember that he is occupying a very sensitive position as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, thereby making him the number six person in Nigeria and must appreciate the fact that we, the youths are looking up to him as our Role Model!
Rochas Okorocha also is, his state governor for now, pending when he (Hon. Emeka Ihedioha) wins as the governor of Imo State and for the pointers, he is not even the candidate of any political party yet, he is just an ordinary aspirant, pending also, when he is chosen as the candidate of his party in the state. It's my considered opinion that he (Ihediora) should stop desecrating the Office and position of the governor of his state because, this is like the planting season, where every farmer plants the seeds he wishes to reap during the harvest period! People are watching and whatsoever a man soweth, that he shall reap even in manifolds, during harvest!
