Arc Muyiwa Ige, son of late Attorney General of Nigeria, Chief Bola Ige has expressed his disappointment in some of the officials of the Independent Electoral Commission posted to Osun State. The officers were reported to have been distributing certain electoral materials without due approval.
Apparently referring to the news of the arrest of INEC staff members 1 a.m. on Friday morning at Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, the state’s Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development said the conduct of the said officials is an embarrassment to Nigerians and indeed, the people of Osun State who, normally should be hopeful that the August 9 gubernatorial election in the will be free and fair.
Speaking from his base in Esa Oke, Muyiwa said “we are furious at the level of compromise that the supposed electoral umpire and its staff have exhibited. Reports even said that the officers already distributed the materials prematuredly to unknown destinations.”
“Permit me to use this opportunity to implore the concerned authorities to retrieve all the materials and for INEC to as a matter of urgency, account for the said materials. We are law abiding people in Obokun Local Government. My people in Esa Oke in particular are ready and prepared to vote for their preferred candidate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. We all expect a very free and fair election.”
"I will equally like to advise Youth Corps members to be engaged on the day of election not to fold the ballot paper for anybody. Their duty is to hand over the ballot paper to individual voter", concluded the Architect son of the Cicero.
