THE WORLD'S BIGGEST EGG SOLD FOR A WHOOPING £50,000 (PHOTO)

The egg on auction belonged to the elephant bird which lived in Madagascar off the coast of Africa until its extinction over 200 years ago.

Just how large is this egg in comparison with others, you ask?

It can hold the contents of seven ostrich eggs, ken eggs or 12,000 hummingbird eggs.

The 1ft long egg is expected to reach between £30,000 and £50,000 at Summers Place Auctions

in Billingshurst, West Sussex.

Errol Fuller, the sale curator at Summers Place Auctions, spoke of the egg: ‘In fact it is the largest egg ever recorded and engineers have calculated that structurally and functionally it is impossible for an egg to be any larger.’
